Setting up Xterminator

Good Morning!
I Have Been Thinking


Controlling SPAM in your E-mail box begins with good filter but often though these filters are just not enough. I have been using a simply easy application available from http://artplus.hr called of all things xterminator. Have you tried it out yet? It’s a great little application and has worked wonders for me.

Four modes are available for the screening process:

Normal Filtering - Manual Screening: In this mode spam will be marked for deletion following the logic of installed filters. Messages will be deleted only after you press the "Delete Marked" button.

Normal Filtering - Auto Delete Spam: In this mode spam will be marked for deletion and deleted automatically following the logic of installed filters.

Friendly Content Only - Manual Screening: In this mode messages will be checked against your "Friendly Content" filters, and any message that doesn't contain topic you've marked as one you're interested in (that are included to your Friendly Content database), will be marked for deletion. Messages will be deleted only after you press the "Delete Marked" button. (This used to be Shangri-La Manual Screening mode in earlier versions of xTerminator)

Friendly Content Only - Auto Delete Unidentified Content: In this mode messages will be checked against your "Friendly Content" filters, and any message that doesn't contain topic you've marked as one you're interested in (that are included to your Friendly Content database), will automatically be deleted! (This used to be Shangri-La Auto Delete mode in earlier versions of xTerminator)

Download Xterminator and read through the set up process. In the first week you will want to use the manual screening process. Click on the menu item -mark all- then uncheck all the items you want to keep. Once you click -delete all marked they will be deleted and a filter set up based on the deleted E-mail. After the end of the first week or after you have entered your friendly list from a .CSV file you can reset the application to auto delete and viola SPAM never reaches your email box.

E-mail and E-mail marketing is here to stay, but we can do something about Unsolicited E-Mail Advertising (USE). In our article for this week I outlined a few of the ways that SPAM can be controlled. Another thing you can and should do is watch where you subscribe. Look for the “privacy” notifications.

If you are subscribing to the Winning Way as an example (and you are if you are receiving this E-mail) your address is safe with me. I do not sell or in any way publish your E-mail address to be harvested by unscrupulous marketers. What is harvesting? It is a method of scanning the web for E-mail addresses. The bots look for anything that begins with the mailto: and contains the @ symbol. The E-mail addresses are then loaded into an E-mail manager and thousands of E-mails are sent out containing the mailer’s message.
